Q: In what ways can an educational advocate support my child in obtaining services or accommodations at school and at home?

A: An educational advocate can help by reviewing existing plans and identifying challenges, requesting evaluations to start services, and seeking necessary educational accommodations within school environment. For children who may qualify based a review of medical and service records, an educational advocate can guide parents or guardians in applying for for family support services through the New York State Office of with Developmental Disabilities. These family support services can offer relief to primary caregivers of children with disabilities.

IEP - Individualized Education Plan 504 - In-school accommodation plan for a student

CSE - for Special Education, from kindergarten to high school graduation or 21

CPSE - Committee for Preschool Special Education, for children aged 3 through pre-kindergarten
